The Growing Crisis
According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) report Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2022 (published January 31, 2024), an estimated 4.33 million people in Bangladesh are living with disabilities. The disability prevalence rate rose from 24.1 per 1,000 population in 2021 to 25.5 per 1,000 in 2022, reflecting a steady national increase in disability cases and a growing demand for rehabilitation services.
A Legacy of Vision & Care
To meet this urgent need, the ASPC Manipulation Therapy Centre was founded in 2006 at Tangail by Dr. M. Shahadat Hossain, a visionary physiotherapist devoted to restoring mobility, reducing pain, and transforming lives through advanced manual and manipulation therapy. What began as a small clinical initiative soon earned national recognition for its remarkable success in treating musculoskeletal, neurological, pediatric, and orthopedic conditions. Guided by Dr. Hossain’s pioneering Structural Diagnosis & Management (SDM) approach, the center later expanded to Mohammadpur, Dhaka, where it continues to uphold a legacy of evidence-based care.
Despite this progress, Bangladesh still faces a critical shortage of physiotherapists. Whereas nations like Japan and the UK have over 15 physiotherapists per 10,000 people, Bangladesh has less than one. To bridge this gap, Agrani College of Physiotherapy and Health Science (ACPHS) was established — a Dhaka University–affiliated institution dedicated to producing globally competent physiotherapists.
